Last game before the Classic…

August 6th, 2004

Well, we managed to play one of three scheduled games this week, as we squared off against Curt Smith Sporting Goods at 8:30 tonight.

Our team played very well offensively, with a highlight being a three-run home run by Paul, with an inside-the-parker by me to follow. We ended up winning by a score of 14-7 or something like that.

I just about made a really nice catch in right-centerfield. The bases were loaded with one out, and Curt Smith’s clean-up batter (#4 in the lineup; usually the power hitter) was up. He hit a line drive to deep right field, and I broke towards it. I ran a while, then dove, stretching my glove out as far as I could, but the ball deflected off of it! It was really frustrating to be so close to making a nice play, only to have it bounce off my glove and allow a couple runs. Thankfully we were able to still win and so the play didn’t really matter, but I really wish I could have caught that thing! Ah well… at least I tried.

We had some extra fans tonight, as a few people who are visiting the area from out of town came to cheer us on. There was Bobby Jo, her sister, Brandy, their friend Kristy, and Kristy’s little boy. The four of them are staying the weekend in order to attend the Softball Classic. They drove in from Minnesota on Thursday. We met Bobby Jo and Brandy last year, and it was great to see them again! They’re really nice gals.

Well, I need to get some sleep. In 48 hours, the Classic will be over and we’ll probably be on a high as everything that just happened starts to sink in. The Classic is coming soon!!
