Volleyball and James’ birthday

September 19th, 2004

Tonight I kicked off my eight-week volleyball season that I’m playing with some aunts and uncles of mine. We play at the Family Sportsplex in Belleville. Tonight we played our three games at 9:00, and we managed to win all three. I was a little bit rusty as it’s the first time I’ve played volleyball in a long time, but I did okay. I certainly have room for improvement, but I’m not too far off from where I was at the end of the season last time we played volleyball, in late winter of this year. My serves were good, and really what I could probably work on the most is spiking, and a lot of that is timing of mine that I need to tweak. But it’s not a bad outing after such a long hiatus.

Today is my brother James’ 16th birthday. Mom baked a really nice triple layer chocolate cake for him, and my parents took him out to lunch at Fire Mountain today. I think he had a good day. It’s hard to believe that my birthday is less than five months away! Where has 2004 gone?!

I think that pretty much wraps it up for now. Some sports I was following today: Braves lost to Marlins (aww), Cards lost to D-backs (aww), Rams lost to Falcons (yuck and aww), and Giants beat Redskins (yay!). Only one good result out of those four games, but I’m not worried about the Braves or the Cardinals. What worries me is the Rams. I’m hoping they’ll have a good season, but they just don’t seem to be like that scary of a team anymore… but let’s hope they win!
