Evening hospital visit
Wednesday evening I was out and about, running various errands. I got a call on my cell phone from my brother, John, saying that Uncle Rob could use a ride to the hospital since he had left his truck there one way or another. I was more than happy to assist. So I picked him up at around 7:00, we drove over to Red Lobster in Fairview Heights, where he picked up dinner for Jenny, and then we headed west on Interstate 64 towards Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. I pulled into the parking garage, and we headed into the hospital and visited Jenny in her room. Her Grandma Verna (Uncle Rob’s mom) was there, spending the afternoon with Jenny until Uncle Rob returned.
We visited with Jenny for about an hour as she ate her meal, and then Verna and I set out for home. I dropped Verna off at her house, and then I headed homeward. I got home a little bit after 10:00 in the evening after being gone for three hours. Even though it was a little tiring, I was very glad to be able to help and also to visit with Jenny. She was in good spirits, and I know they are hoping she will be able to come home possibly by the end of the week.
Jenny has now lost all her hair from the chemotherapy, but amazingly she doesn’t seem to be too fazed by it. She’s still a cute little kid, and I’m glad she’s able to be happy through it all. I’m sure she was thrilled to get some grilled salmon for dinner as opposed to hospital food.
That was the big news for Wednesday. I didn’t make it to the YMCA like I had planned, but that’s all right. You’ve always got to be ready to pick up and go, and if I’m able to help out in some way or another, then that’s what I intend on doing.
Let’s keep praying for Jenny, and ask God that He will heal her completely of the leukemia and let her be released to come back home so she can live a normal nine-year-old’s lifestyle. Praying is more than wishing someone well. Prayer is powerful. I really believe that God can flush out any trace of the cancer from Jenny’s body, and that’s what I’m praying He will do.
By the way, today’s carb count was 24. Not much, I know! But I figure that’s a good thing as I’m planning to step on the scale again tomorrow to see the current status. If I had to venture a guess, I would say… 189, even. We’ll see, though!
