Rushing to Volleyball
Here’s this evening’s scenario…
Time: 6:50
Location: My attic room
Scene: Luke napping on his bed
I’m awakened by a phone page from my mom, and I all of a sudden realize that it’s 6:50, and I’m reminded that my volleyball game starts in 10 minutes! Well, now that we’re out in the country, Belleville is a significant drive. So, I jump out of bed, and in a haze I get ready. I practically leap down two flights of stairs, run across the porch and hop into the car. I buckle up and hurry (safely, of course!) eastward towards Belleville.
At 7:07, I pull into the parking lot of the Family Sportsplex in Belleville. I turn the ignition off, grab my phone, and run into the complex. I made it to the court just seconds before the first game started! Phew! I’m thankful that I didn’t miss any of the game. I missed the warm-ups that our team had, but I was just thankful to be playing in the game after being asleep no more than 20 minutes earlier. I actually played pretty well in all three games, but we lost the last two by a few points. Ironically, I think this was my best game to date this season, and it’s the only one that I haven’t warmed up for.
Go figure. Next week, maybe I’ll just arrive a little bit earlier at the Sportsflex so I’m not counting every second. Or maybe I’ll save the naps for another time.
That was the highlight, I guess you can call it, of the day. Earlier in the afternoon, Mom and Dad took a few of us to Cici’s for lunch. We ate our fill of pizza and cinnamon rolls, and I was appreciating all of those delicious carbohydrates. Starting tomorrow, though, it’s back to the carb diet, so I won’t be eating anything of the sort.
In other news…
Prayers for Jenny are still greatly appreciated. According to Mom, she’s been getting pretty sick the past couple days from all the chemotherapy treatment at the hospital, and things aren’t going quite as well as the doctors were hoping. I don’t think this is life-threatening — I believe it’s more of a setback at this point. Whatever the case, though, we need to keep praying for her.
In sports…
Baseball - The major league baseball seaseon ended today. The postseason begins Tuesday, and here are the match-ups. The teams in bold are the ones I want to win in each series.
Dodgers @ Cardinals
Astros @ Braves
Twins @ Yankees
Red Sox @ Angels
Football - The St. Louis Rams played in San Francisco against the 49ers on Sunday Night Football. The Rams rebounded wonderfully from last week’s loss against the Saints as they creamed the ‘Niners by a score of 24-6. Marshall Faulk had a great game running, Isaac Bruce had 100 yards receiving, and it was an all-around great game for the blue and gold. Next Sunday they play in Seattle, and that should be a big test for the 2-2 Rams!
And, with that, this entry is in the books.
