Game-winning triple
Tonight we played against the Misfits. It was a low-scoring game, and we were playing catch-up pretty much the entire game. By the bottom of the seventh inning, we found ourselves trailing 6-3. We were trailing 6-5 when I stepped to the plate. Dad was on third; Paul on second. There were two outs. A base hit could win the game. An out would lose the game.
I wasted little time in swinging at a pitch and actually ended up popping it up to shallow right field. That was most definitely not what I was trying to do! Much to my delight, the ball was barely out of reach of the first baseman and too shallow for the right fielder, and it dropped in! Dad scored and Paul hustled around third base, cruising home for the game-winner!
It was not a very pretty triple, but it was a triple nonetheless, and the important thing is that it got the job done. I ended up batting 1-2 tonight (sacrifice fly, walk, fly out and triple). I’m still a bit puzzled by what is causing me to get under the ball so much and thus pop it up. Yesterday I had a nice line drive. I tried adjusting to the pitches today, but I still seemed to pop them up. Dad mentioned that he thinks I might be a little bit early on the ball; that maybe I need to work on the timing of my swing. Whatever the case, I cannot wait until I’m totally out of my slump and I’m back to hitting the ball like I know I can! In Sunday’s practice, I was hitting lots of line drives. Hopefully I’ll get there sooner rather than later. =) I’ll continue to work on it.
