Day Eight (Labor Day)

September 5th, 2005

Well, the eighth day of the trip is coming to an end. We had a bit of a change of pace today, as we mostly hung around the campsite the entire day. That was welcome, though, as we haven’t really had a whole lot of time to hold still. It’s been plenty fun driving from site to site, but it’s also nice to slow down and just unwind a little bit.

This morning, I spent a couple of hours working outside on the picnic table. I’m transcribing one of John’s depositions, and I managed to get quite a bit done in a couple of hours. That was a really good feeling, as it has been a bit difficult to get work done with all of the driving and sightseeing we have been doing.

Around noon, Mark and I left for downtown Cody, where we were on a mission to run a few errands. We went to Wal-Mart to pick up a few odds and ends for the RV, stopped by a hardware store and also drove the minivan through a car wash. While out, Mark and I stopped for lunch at a Pizza Hut. They had a lunch buffet going, so we couldn’t resist. Their cherry dessert pizza is very, very good, by the way!

This evening, Mark and I played poker with Aunt Jane and Grandpa. We played many different games, from Pass The Trash, to In Between, to Seven Card Stud, to Five Card Draw, to a few others that I can’t recall offhand. In fact, we just wrapped up playing about 20 minutes ago.

Tomorrow morning, we plan to depart this campsite and head back to Yellowstone. Tomorrow evening’s ultimate destination will be West Yellowstone, Montana, though we plan on meandering through the park, possibly heading north to the Beartooth Mountains, which are supposed to be extremely beautiful. I don’t know if we’ll actually have time to see them or not, but it sure would be nice. If nothing else, I think we’ll get to see the 308-foot-high Lower Falls, which would be awesome to see!

I’d better run now. It’s been a beautiful day, and I had a great time hanging around the campsite, being somewhat lazy. Tomorrow we’ve got a big day ahead of us so it’s time to call it a night!
