What’s a blog?

This. :)

If you’re unfamiliar with the term “blog,” fear not. It simply stands for “web log.” They’re all the rage nowadays, with sites like Xanga.com, LiveJournal.com and MySpace.com offering blogs for everyone and their mother.

Blogs, just like their authors, can vary immensely in terms of the content, the frequency in which they are updated, and so on. For some people, a blog is a diary or a journal of sorts. For others, it’s a place where they publish articles.

What about your blog?

My blog is more of a journal in that I tend to cover different things that have been going on around here with the family and such. On rare occasions, I will rant about something that’s on my mind. More often, though, I’ll just share my thoughts on a subject. And the most common type of entry is just a synopsis of the day.

Why do you have a blog?

Well, as you can tell, I’ve had it for quite some time. I began this in May of 2004, and I set out to use it to keep a log of different things that happen.

I’ve always wanted to chronicle things, and this seemed like one of the best ways to do it. So far, it has worked out pretty nicely. I have kind of made myself stick with it over the past year-and-a-half, and I’m really thankful that I have. By now, I’m in the habit of updating every day or two, so it’s not real difficult to keep up with.

I don’t know how long I’ll keep up with it, but I hope to continue for quite some time. It’s interesting to be able to look back in time and see what was happening on a given day.

What about feedback?

I like hearing from people and getting their insight on different things. I have a comment system, where anyone can leave a comment on a given entry. In addition to that, there is also the option to e-mail me by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of each entry. I love feedback, so don’t be shy!

I can search?

You sure can! Simply type in a word or a phrase, and the entire blog will be searched! One thing to keep in mind, though: The way the search feature works as of this entry is not the same as, say, a Google search. If you type in “bat” and search, results will show up for any entries containing “bat,” “battery” or “battle.” While this can be good, it can also be confusing if you don’t realize that this is the case.

What if I have another question?

If you have a question, feel free to e-mail it to me. I’ll either answer it in a blog entry, or I’ll simply reply to your e-mail. I like questions. :) I don’t have all the answers, but I’m happy to give it a whirl.
