.600 is in sight!
Tomorrow night, we play what may well be our final softball game of 2007.
Back in late March of this year, I wrote an entry about how I was setting a goal to hit .600 this year — that is, have a .600 batting average. The closest I had ever come to that mark was .558 last year, which was hard enough for me.
Well, I’ve been having a pretty good year, and as of right now, I’m batting .608, if my calculations are correct. So if our last game was tonight, I would have reached that goal. If tomorrow is, indeed, our final game of the year, then here’s the situation.
I’m batting .608, with 121 hits in 199 at-bats ( 121/199 = .608 ). In a typical game, I’ll get three to five at-bats. So here are some possible scenarios with my resulting average:
Current average: .608 (121-199)
0-2 game = .602
0-3 game = .599
1-3 game = .604
1-4 game = .601
1-5 game = .598
2-5 game .603
So I’m in pretty good shape, especially if I can get at least one hit. It’s very rare to have only two at-bats, so I’ll almost certainly need at least one hit. That’s very doable, though. What a great feeling it will be to get a hit in my first at-bat tomorrow!
I know it’s just a game, and I know they’re just numbers, but… it would be pretty special to me if I could finish the year at .600! We’ll see what happens, I guess.
I’m not going to try to get my hopes up too much, in case I can’t accomplish it. But… boy, I sure hope I do! I’m so close.
Either way, it’s been a fun year, there’s no question about that!
